- Entered active service as a draftee on May 7, 1943 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Trained as a Fuel Station Operator (Military Occupational Specialty 081) and departed the Continental U.S. on August 21, 1943 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Saw combat with the 705th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company through The Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, And Po Valley Campaigns. Earned The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, the WWII Victory Medal, And The Good Conduct Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technician 4th Grade in the Corps of Engineers on December 9, 1945 at Camp Grant, Illinois.
