- Brenda Joyce DiSandro, age 69, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, February 25, 2022, at her home.
She was born April 23, 1952, in Champaign, the daughter of Lloyd George and Velma June (Cooper) Schoonover. She was united in marriage to Benjamin W. Phillips in 1987 and he preceded her in death. She later married Nicholas Keith DiSandro on July 5, 2003, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2019.
Brenda worked for Clay County Health Department for 25 years, working in Home Health and volunteering in Hospice. She enjoyed staying active working in the garden, fishing, and caring for her flowers. She never sat still unless it was to kick your butt playing the card game Skip-Bo. She was a member of the Flora First Baptist Church. Brenda cared for a number of beloved pets over the years and enjoyed visiting and catching up with friends and family.
She is survived by her children: Mike (Marki) Griffin of Port Orchard, WA, Angela (Rob) McKnight of Flora, Robbie (Betty) Murphy Flora; step-son: Norman (Shannon) DiSandro of Lubbock, TX; 8 grandchildren: Heather (Andy) Wasserman, Amber (Anthony) Cummins, Ryan Griffin, Trevor Murphy (Tori), Cierra Griffin (Brody), Dakota Murphy (Cameron), Cassandra Williamson, and Jon Murphy; 5 great-grandchildren: Chase, Blake, Emmitt, Cassidy, and Izaya; 3 brothers: Gene Schoonover of Fisher, Fred (Debbie) Schoonover of Seymore, and Curtis Schoonover of Louisville; special friend: Mike Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 2 brothers: Dale and John Schoonover; and a sister-in-law: Renee Schoonover.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospice, Clay County Cancer Crusaders, or Fur a Good Paws and will be accepted through the funeral home.
