Departed the continental U.S. on April 16, 1945 bounnd for the European Theater of Operations. Upon arrival, assigned to and served with Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd "Old Guard" Infantry Regiment (a non-divisional unit) which was attached to the 106th ‘Golden Lion' Infantry Division at war's end in Europe. Participated in the subsequent occupation of Germany and eventually became a squad leader (MOS 812). Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on June 4, 1946 at the separation center, Fort Sheridan.
